The Monterey 186MS boat is a good choice if you want something nice without spending too much money. It’s an open-bow runabout, meaning it has an open front area and a lot of space. The floor inside is made of fiberglass, which is easy to clean and doesn’t need much maintenance. There’s a walkway at the back of the boat that makes it easy to get on and off, and there’s a big area at the back for sitting in the sun.
Even though the boat is small, it’s designed to make the most of the space. The seats are strong and won’t get damaged easily, even if people walk on them a lot or if they’re in the sun. There’s a way to walk from the inside of the boat to the back without having to climb over anything, which is handy, although it means there’s a bit less space for storing things. The back area where people sit is also where you can get onto the boat from the water, and it’s at a good height for getting on from a dock.
The part where you control the boat is simple and easy to use, with traditional dials and switches. It’s finished neatly, without any sharp edges. There’s a remote control for the stereo, and the controls for the engine work well. When we tested how fast it could go, it took just over 5 seconds to get going and reached a top speed of about 39 miles per hour.
There’s a storage area at the back of the boat where you can keep things wet, like a cooler with drinks. It’s also easy to get to the switch for the battery there.
